Terry McClelland (Interested Director)

Terry was introduced to the pleasures of paddling on Lake Maroon as a beginning teacher in the eighties. The next decade saw him commit to canoeing recreationally at many family, social and educational gatherings.

After settling on the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland, Terry immersed himself in exploring its many waterways and upskilling as many students as possible from the local district.

As an active member of the Tinaroo Canoe Club for over 25 years, he was instrumental in initiating the Barron River Challenge in 2011 after a decade of participation in XPD style adventure races. The TCC’s 50km River marathon draws paddlers from around our nation and has steered Terry to focus on education and assessment within our paddling discipline.

Whilst still enjoying the challenge to master paddling River K1’s and ocean ski’s, Terry believes ‘real living’ is a Canadian journey downriver on a multi-day adventure.

The opportunity to discuss regional issues, if and when they arise, through the portal established by being an Interested Director was the main incentive for his nominating to be on the QC board.

Terry commenced as an Interested Director on the Board of Queensland Canoeing in August 2017.
