2019 Morgans Qld Ocean Racing Series

2011 saw the first ever ocean racing series in Queensland and Northern NSW. The series was a coming together of several established events who joined forces to become part of the then Pacific Ocean Series. In 2019, we are bringing back the series under a new name, new events and in conjunction with Paddle Queensland and Paddle 2 Fitness.

The 2019 series has seven (7) events from the Gold and Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay and as far north as Townsville / Cairns. The series will run from 15th June to 9th November 2019 and will attract both local, national and international competitors across a number of ocean racing disciplines including ocean skis, surf skis, stand up and prone paddle boards as well as outrigger canoes. With the competitors racing in some of Queensland’s most iconic locations.

The series has been created to increase participation across all events in the ocean racing series by packaging these events into a major series (MQORS). A series points scoring system will see competitors work towards overall category rankings to determine a series winner amongst age group disciplines, in addition to an overall male and female series winner.

MQORS –  Events

Event Date Location ZONE
Beach to Beach 15 June 2019 Sunshine Coast SE QLD
Etty Bay 13 July 2019 Cairns Northern QLD
Gold Coast Classic 10 August 2019 Gold Coast SE QLD
The Old Woman 14 September 2019 Sunshine Coast SE QLD
Cape2Cape 15 September 2019 Townsville Northern QLD
Hervey Bay 19th October 2019 Hervey Bay Central QLD

MQORS – Point Score

Events will be broken into three zones (SE QLD, Central & Northern). Paddlers will have to compete in two events in their own zone and one away event. If a paddler racing in more than these nominated events, their best two local and best away results will be counted in the point score.

For example, a paddler from the Gold Coast might compete in the Gold Coast Classic, Old Woman Island and Hervey Bay while a paddler in Townsville might compete in Cape2Cape, Etty Bay and Beach to Beach.

Actually point score system will be similar to the AORS. An undated point score will be sent out from Paddle Queensland post each event.

MQORS – Prizes / Giveaways

MQORS have already been able to succour a number of sponsors to help establish this first series. Over the coming month, we will be working hard to succour more series sponsors so to offer participating paddlers more value for money when competing in MQORS events.
