GCCC SENIORS WEEK – CURRUMBIN CREEK

Gold Coast City Council Seniors Week – Active Seniors Kayak Explore.

Gerry Rose and Matt Rowland had a great outing down the Gold Coast for a Senior’s Week activity on Currumbin Creek where they paddled about 5kms upstream on Currumbin Creek, in a loop from Winders Park and back.  It’s a beautiful creek, the weather was great, a perfect winter’s day on the Gold Coast, sunny but not hot and a light breeze and they had assistance from the Currumbin Creek Paddlers Club; many thanks to Byron, Jo and Joanne who made their job easier.

It was a pleasure launching in clean sand, but it’s so soft it still sucks your shoes off, just like Mangrove Mud.  A surprise was a Special Needs participant; a lady recovering from a near-fatal traumatic brain injury.  She was inspiring to meet and has come such a long way on her road to recovery.

A White-Bellied Sea Eagle, sat serenely in a dead tree whilst they all stopped to admire him; Brahminy Kites circled overhead; Kingfishers did their thing along the banks; they were reliably told by the locals that Koalas lived around ‘the next bend’.

The group thoroughly enjoyed the outing and Currumbin Club may get some new members.
