One of the world’s toughest outrigger canoe and paddling events, the Clash of the Paddles was run over four exciting days from the 11th-14th June 2015.
Events run over the 4 days included Surf & Ocean Ski 3 km and 7 km races, Dash for Cash, Eliminator and Long distance 25 km course from Lindeman Island to Hamilton Island Catseye Bay, as well as Outrigger Sprints, 6 km KW Challenge, 8 km and 16 km Races, Outrigger Eliminator and 42 km outrigger Marathon.
Some great commentary from AOCRA describing the first few days of this years event
“Day 1 over for the COTP and what a fantastic day it was!!!! The weather/ocean conditions proved very challenging and for the first time the OC1/2 16km was run as two laps within sight of Cats Eye Bay. Great for spectators and all paddlers I spoke to had massive grins and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. Awesome to see the International crews (PNG, New Caledonia and Hawaii) play such a big part in this event. “
“Day 2 down and it was some of the most challenging , fun and exciting race conditions ever. The wind was hitting 40-45 knots over night and backed down to 28-30 by day break. Too rough to go round the island but an 8km course was set up out of Cats Eye heading East, turn, surf back down inside Fitz , past Fitz and back to Cats Eye by two laps. 2.5-3 mtr seas, surfing was unreal, seemed like a very quick 16k. Everyone I’ve spoken to believe it to be a better course then around Hamo, we just might be onto something here. Plus the spectators got to see the entire race, does make a huge difference.”
