2012 QLD School Canoe Marathon Championships

Saturday 25th August 2012 | Currumbin Creek

Hosted by: Queensland Canoeing Incorporated & Currumbin Creek Canoe Club

Preston Park on the Currumbin Creek, Gold Coast was overtaken with the invasion of students from schools ready to compete in the 2012 Queensland Schools Canoe Marathon Championships. 125 students from twenty-two schools travelled to the Gold Coast. Schools from north of the Sunshine Coast to just over the New South Wales border were soon cheering and shouting words of encouragement to others as the races commenced.
The pristine water of the Currumbin Creek and perfect weather provided ideal conditions for the competitors. The day was Saturday 25 August 2012, more a day experiencd in spring rather than winter.
Races distances were as little as 1.5km to 9km for the older age groups.
Congratulations to Pacific Lutheran College (Sunshine Coast) once again stamped their dominance to claim the Champion School trophy with a total of 238 points, ahead of Palm Beach Currumbin State High School (Gold Coast) on 172 and Lourdes Hill College (Brisbane) on 44 points.
On behalf of Queensland Canoeing much thanks and appreciation is forwarded to the Currumbin Creek Paddlers Club and their willing volunteers for organising and hosting a very spectacular day. Many thanks to the parents, teachers and students who attended.

Jerry Dunn (QC Board and ACMRTC, Chair) presents the Champion Schools Trophy to Pacific Lutheran College.
