Barron River 50

The Barron River Challenge is a 50kms and 12.3 km down river kayak/canoe race from Mareeba to Kuranda to be held on Saturday/Sunday 12th and 13th May, 2012.

The race is being organised by the Tinaroo Canoe Club (TCC) which has been active in the Tablelands region for over 30years. Members of Tinaroo Canoe Club are regularly involved in both education and community activities to enhance safety on NQ rivers and waterways to promote active, safe, healthy lifestyles for residents. In particular the Tinaroo Canoe Club is interested in developing skills and encouraging less experienced paddlers and young people to participate, so 2 courses have been developed with this in mind –Junior/Open Short Course and Senior Long Course.
Course 1 BRC12 (Junior/Senior Short Course): Juniors aged 14-17 years and Open aged 18years and over are paddling between Mareeba and Biboorha (12.3km) on Saturday afternoon 12th May, starting at 2pm. The cost of a junior registration is $15 and an Open Registration is $30.
Course 2 BRC50 (Long Course): Seniors aged 18 and over, paddling between Mareeba and Kuranda on Sunday 13th May starting at 7.30am. Experienced Juniors may also participate in the Long Course as long as they are accompanied by someone over 18 years. The cost of a senior registration is $88.
This race is positioned on the NQ Sporting Calendar between the popular events of the Gregory River Canoe Race and The Great Wheelbarrow Race. The event is primarily a sporting activity which will attract competitors, their families and support crews from all around Australia.
