Mooloolah River Upstream, Mooloolaba


The paddle


Heading upstream from the launch point Ð a pleasant paddle past canal developments to under the Sunshine Motorway bridges and then upstream on the Mooloolah river. This tidal river has tree lined banks, bird life and interesting scenery. A small lake to the north of the river can be accessed by small craft by a narrow creek off the river. Good 3-4 hour paddle Ð only limited landing opportunities exist upstream if the new Nicklin Way motorway bridge.


How to get there


Charles Clarke Park in Mooloolaba on River Esplanade. Toilets are available.


What to expect Ð water conditions, etc


The river is tidal and upstream of the Sunshine Motorway bridges the water is generally calm Ð not many landings available and suitable for most crafts. Downstream of the bridges the water can be choppy in certain weather conditions.


Distance/Time to allow


This is a good 3 to 4 hour paddle.

There are a range of camping and accommodation choices available in the Sunshine Coast area.
